Greek Deacon singing at Pedro's Day
Monday, October 22, 2012
A Greek Deacon sang the Gospel in Greek, symbolizing the Union of the Latin and the Greek Churches, during the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod and his companions on World Mission Sunday.
The Gospel according to St. Mark is about the 2 disciples, John and James asking Jesus for a favor to sit near him in Heaven. Jesus refused their request, for the ultimate requirement for us to go to Heaven as Jesus said is to be a servant, a servant to Him and to His children.
Our Saint Pedro Calungsod followed the words of Christ as he took part in a journey with Fr. Sanvitores in Guam. He did not go with fear or to go for personal gain, but went to preach to love of Christ to the natives. Because of this, he died as a martyr, a witness to Christ's glory and received his eternal reward for his dedicated service to His master.
